The IG-97 was a series of assassin droids constructed early in the reign of the Galactic Empire, also called Imperial Battle Droids by some.
History[]
Like the IG-88 series, IG-72, and the IG-100 MagnaGuard series, the IG-97 series was produced by Holowan Mechanicals, which had acquired and modified the plans to the original IG lancer droid when it bought Phlut Design Systems, who had then constructed lancers for the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Similar in design to the B-1 battle droid employed by the Trade Federation during the Clone Wars, the Empire realized they were too weak to perform in battle, thus cutting production.
One particular IG-97 unit rose to prominence on Tatooine, where he helped Big Gizz, Spiker, Onoh, and Klepti B'ay defeat a rogue dark trooper.
The Imperial officer Rom Mohc kept an IG-97 prototype he had defeated in man-to-droid combat as a trophy.
